Search Engine Optimisation

From my years of active digital marketing practice , I have come to realize that many businesses in Nigeria , whether small , medium or big businesses are not necessarily a major patron to search engine optimization (SEO).

Little do they even prioritize SEO services on their digital marketing plan and if at all they do, they hardly allot a substantial budget spend to SEO.

Should I say SEO is considered by many businesses as rather too technical and less result- oriented? Or may be many a business have little or no understanding of SEO.

Really! SEO is not so fun and interesting endeavour for non specialists , it appears rather too complex and boring. But it works ! It is a very viable online marketing strategy that can bring your business more qualified leads and customers. It puts you right in front of that user thinking about you and what you do , but searching with a related term or keyword associated with what you do.

Studies have shown that a properly implemented SEO strategy can achieve better ROI than traditional forms of marketing like TV ads and Print media.

Like any other marketing effort, SEO is not magic, but it provides a business visibility, branding, web traffic, a high ROI, credibility, and rich insight into customer’s behavior.

Have you try to find out why your business need SEO ?

  1. SEO gives your business more visibility and branding: when a user searches online using any of the search engines , his/her intention is to get quality results that satisfy his request. Each of the search results are links to relevant websites that the search engine algorithm has indexed. Imagine your website appears top on search results immediately a particular term or keyword phrase is being searched. That alone gives your brand some visibility and influence aside clicks to the website.

What then does this mean for your business? It means that if you can continually appear in search results you will continually gain more mindshare with each potential customer. There is great likelihood that they eventually click through to your website, and this makes them trust your business more.

  1. Competitive Advantage: While you wait, your competitors are doing it !

An effective SEO makes your business an authority. If you get found while you are needed in any search endeavour, you leave the user no choice but to engage with you. Your business is trusted and revered if you offer a great experience. You are taken seriously, for organic search delivers 20% more conversion than any direct medium.

  1. Business Credibility: It is instructive to note that searchers make a mental note of searches made on Google and other search engines. They may not consciously realize it, but they do so subconsciously. In the minds of the consumers your ranking is a vote of confidence. It is logical that each time a user searches for a given term and your business is found, you are more likely to be trusted and taken seriously.
  1. Cost Effective: You do this at little or less cost as against paying for ads.
  1. User Centred: SEO makes you understand the behaviour of users and how they interact with search engines. It makes you see your business right from the customer’s eyeballs. You have to think more like the customer when doing SEO. Afterall, your business exists to serve them. If you don’t reach them at the point of their need others will!
